How to Handle Mid-Lease Challenges Without Burning Bridges

Business changes. So should your lease. But most tenants don’t know how to bring up

concerns mid-term.

I worked with a distribution tenant who hit a sudden downturn. Instead of walking away,

we renegotiated the lease—extending the term in exchange for lower monthly

payments. The landlord kept a quality tenant, and the tenant stayed afloat.

If You Need to Renegotiate:

Come with data: sales trends, projections, your ask

Offer something in return (like more term or space)

Be proactive. Don’t wait until default.

At CIG, we see lease challenges as conversations, not conflicts. Because good

relationships outlast rough quarters.
